Jade Oolong (Cui Yu), also known as ‘Jade Ti Guan Yin,’ is a type of Taiwanese oolong tea with a light floral aroma and an elegant, creamy, and buttery profile. The tea leaves are tightly rolled into small, dark green or jade-colored pellets, resembling jade beads, hence the name ‘Jade Oolong.’ Jade Oolong was originally a trade term used to describe some of Taiwan’s more greenish Oolong types. Tea leaves were brought from Fujian and flourished in Taiwan’s rich climate, and now Jade Oolongs are their own variety of cultivars. The oxidation of Jade Oolong is kept to 25% or less and has minimal rolling to give it its greener or ‘jade’ character.
