How do I add products using the Bulk Uploader?

In this guide

The bulk uploader tool allows you to upload an entire spreadsheet of new product listings to your shop. Follow the steps below to learn how.

If you are editing existing products on Faire, please see: How to edit products in bulk

How to create a bulk upload

  1. Click the Product tab on the left-hand side of the page in your Brand portal. A dropdown menu will appear that will include 'Bulk upload & export' as an option.
  2. Here you can upload the following supported file formats:
    1. Faire
    2. Etsy
    3. WooCommerce
    4. Shopify
  3. To begin the upload, you can drag your file into the upload area, click the upload area to upload your file, or click the 'Upload file' button in the top right corner to upload your file.

  4. If using the Faire template to create new products:

You can download the Faire template by clicking 'Download our template'. This will download a blank Faire template to be filled in. Use the template as a reference (there are instructions and examples within) and fill in all the required information needed for the bulk upload. This includes:

    • SKU
    • Product name
    • Product type
    • Description
    • Unit wholesale price
    • Unit retail price
    • Case quantity
    • Image name

Once the template has been filled in with your product details and saved, you can drag your file into the upload area, click the upload area to upload your file, or click the 'Upload file' button in the top right corner to upload your file.

  5. Once you've added your file, click 'Continue'.

*if uploading a Faire template, you will also be able to upload photos for products

  6. Now, you can submit your upload. Here we will continue how many files have been uploaded and whether existing products will be updated and/or whether new products will be created. Click 'Upload'.

Existing products can only be updated using a Faire template - for more information, please see: How to edit products in bulk

  7. Once your upload is submitted, you will see your upload listed in 'Past uploads' as 'Processing'. This will change to 'Completed' once your upload is complete.

Once your upload is completed, you will see a summary of the number of products uploaded, errors and warnings. For more information on this, you can click on the upload.

Here you will see specific detail on:

    1. Products added: Products successfully uploaded
    2. Warnings: Products were uploaded but may require more detail or review, such as a missing product type.
    3. Errors: Products were not able to be uploaded due to specified errors. Errors can be fixed and resubmitted for a bulk upload.

Congratulations! You've completed your bulk upload.

How do I use the Faire template to add products?

  1. Open the template in either Excel or Google Sheets
  2. Complete the "Products" tab with the products you'd like to add. We included an Instructions tab and Column Definitions tab to help you format your products correctly. See more details on how to add products: How to format your products
  3. Save the file as a .xlsx file. If using Google Sheets, you can do this by going to File -> Download -> Microsoft Excel (.xlsx)

Tips & Tricks

  • Be mindful that we will process the entire sheet, including any columns you may have hidden or filtered out.
  • Do not add “notes” in the files, do not add HTML, do not add emojis or copyright symbols
  • Do not sort the sheet by any column
  • Do not rename any of the tabs
  • We only support xlsx format (which can be opened and saved in Excel or Google Sheets). We do not accept CSVs.

Resources

  • You can find examples for how to format your products in the Product Examples Sheet
  • For more detailed information about each column, see the "Column Definitions" tab in your template
  • Many cells have drop-downs with the valid values. All valid values can be seen in the "Data Options" tab in your spreadsheet

How do I format products with variants using the Faire template?

  1. Products are often sold in different sizes, colors, styles, and other "options"
  2. Any rows sharing the same product name will be considered part of the same product
  3. All options for a product must be grouped together in consecutive rows. The second group of rows with the same name will be rejected as a duplicate
  4. Some column values must be the same across all product options. These are noted in "Column Definitions"

How do I format products with multiple options using the Faire template?

  1. In order to specify multiple sizes in one cell, Option Name must be "Size|Multiple"
  2. Option 1 Value then must be in the comma-separated format. An example is S,M,L
  3. Every size will share the same image and metadata listed in that row

    options.png

Tips & Tricks

  • Do not include any extra characters
  • Add them in the order you would like them to be displayed

How do I format products sold in prepacks using the Faire template?

  1. In order to sell a product in a prepack, Option 1 Name must be "Size|Prepack"
  2. Option 1 Value then must be in the format #-#-#;size-size-size. An example is 1-2-2-2-1;XS-S-M-L-XL
  3. You must specify each size individually. For example, 1-2-1;S-L will result in an error. The correct specification is 1-2-1;S-M-L
  4. A single product variant can either be included in one or more prepacks or sold on its own with its own row, but not both
  5. The first image will be applied to all variants in the prepack
  6. The case quantity and minimum order quantity are only used if items in the prepack are eventually converted to sell by individual size

Tips & Tricks

  • Do not add extra white space
  • You can specify as many prepacks for a single product as you want

How do I format products available for preorder using the Faire template?

  1. There is a flag to list something as a preorder
  2. If you mark it as a preorder using the "Y" notation, you must provide a "Ship By Date"
  3. The other columns are optional, but provide customizations to your preorder

    peorder.png

Tips & Tricks

  • You can only list a product as either a preorder or not; you cannot have it be both at the same time. To create both, you must create a new product or row, and it will be listed separately.
  • Be mindful that we will process the entire sheet, including any columns you may have hidden or filtered out.
  • Do not add “notes” in the files, do not add HTML, do not add emojis or copyright symbols
  • Do not sort the sheet by any column
  • Do not rename any of the tabs
  • We only support xlsx format which can be opened and saved in Excel or Google Sheets (note: this sheet won't work in Numbers). We do not accept CSVs

How do I bulk upload image using the Faire template?

There are two ways you can upload images to your new products

  • Uploading images using URL links
  • Uploading images by attaching image files (JPEGs, PNGs)

Uploading images using URL links

  1. Paste the URL of the image you are uploading in the "Image" column.
    1. To add multiple image URLs to a product, include a space in between each URL.
  2. You must attach at least 1 image to all products with a Product Status of "Active". Any "Active" products with 0 images will be rejected. You can upload "Draft" products without images.
  3. The bulk upload tool will only accept public URLs. If a URL requires a password to view, we will not be able to upload it.
  4. Each URL must link to a single image. We cannot accept URLs to folders of images. This will result in an error.

    Screen_Shot_2021-05-26_at_4.53.51_PM.png

Tips & Tricks

  • Make sure the URL is public and accessible to Faire or people outside your organization.
  • If linking to images, they must be direct-to-image links, if you're using a program like Google Drive to link to the images, you will need to convert the image links into direct-to-image file links. The default link that Google Drive provides is only a link to the preview of the image.

Tips & Tricks

  • When listing the file name, the extension (i.e. ".jpg") is optional
  • Images will be added to the product in the order they are imported from the spreadsheet
  • Make sure the leftmost image in the first row for the product is the one you want to be the hero image. That image will be the one shown on product titles for your product
  • You can import up to 4 images for each option of your product. The leftmost image will be the one shown when that product option is selected
  • Your product photos should comply with our Product Image guidelines

How do I bulk upload testers and customizations using the Faire template?

Testers

For each product that you would like to create a tester for, enter the price of the tester for each currency amount in the corresponding cell(s) below the "Tester Price" column(s). You may choose to enter tester prices for as many of the available currency columns as you would like.

Customizations

  1. Under the "Customizable" column, enter "Yes" if you would like to offer customization for the corresponding product
  2. Under the "Customizable Instructions" column, provide instructions to your retailer for how to add customization text to the selected product. A maximum of 70 characters is allowed for this cell.
  3. Under the "Customization Input Required" column, enter "Yes" if retailers must add some customization text when purchasing this product. Otherwise they will be allowed to check out without specifying any customization
  4. Under the "Customization Character Input Limit" column, enter the maximum number of characters (in numerical format) for your customizations (ex: entering 50 would mean that a retailer's customization text cannot contain more than 50 characters)
  5. Under the "Customization Minimum Order Quantity" column, enter the minimum order quantity (MOQ) for your customization. Your customization MOQ is the minimum number of items a retailer must order when they purchase your customization. Remember that the minimum order quantity must be greater than or equal to your product's MOQ and must be a multiple of your case size
  6. Under the "Customization Charge Per Unit" column(s), enter the customization price(s) for each currency that you would like to offer your customization to. You may choose to enter customization prices for as many of the available currency columns as you would like

Why am I getting an error when trying to upload my bulk upload file?

Faire can only support the following file types:

  1. Faire
  2. Etsy
  3. WooCommerce
  4. Shopify

Please ensure that you are uploading these files in an xlsx format.
