We don't often stray from our orchard fruit obsession – but this straight up tomato jam is worthy of the stretch. This year’s batch includes beautiful ruby Amish paste tomatoes from Maple Rock Farm right here on Orcas, outdoor grown, sun-ripened and kissed by the ocean breezes in Crow Valley, and gorgeous heirlooms coddled by Mama Bird on San Juan. This past season we also brought in the lauded Dirty Girl Produce dry farmed Early Girls – and the combination is genius! We tease out the natural sweetness of these beauties with organic cane sugar, curls of organic lemon zest, and a pinch of San Juan Sea Salt. If you've never tried tomato jam, it was a revelation to us – you won't be disappointed. Fabulous with every cheese we've put it on – and the hubby swears by it on a ham sandwich. The GOAT. The standard by which I judge any jam. Their excellent ingredient sourcing and painstaking production process results in a jam that tastes much more complex than you’d expect. Many taste like they contain more ingredients than they actually do (for instance, the Orcas Pear and Bay tastes like it has added cinnamon and ginger, but it actually contains neither). It’s a joy to sample GMD jam to customers and watch their shocked and delighted expressions!
