Shipping an order

Dans ce guide

Once you've accepted an order, you’ll need to fill out the order’s shipping details. When fulfilling the order, depending on your location and shipping method(s) available, you will be prompted to select your shipping method.

  • Ship with Faire : You pay $0 shipping costs upfront and receive low carrier rates. Faire covers the cost*, which is then added to the retailer's invoice for orders where the retailer is responsible for covering shipping costs (this excludes free shipping promotions, or orders where the retailer is eligible for Insider free shipping). Please note that Ship with Faire is currently available to brands in select countries, and is strictly forbidden for products that may be classified by carriers as Dangerous Goods or Hazardous Materials, to learn more visit Dangerous Goods or Hazardous Materials shipments are strictly forbidden through Ship With Faire
  • Ship on your own : This method allows you to use your own carrier to ship orders, and we’ll reimburse the shipping cost on your payout up to an approved amount for those orders*. You’ll enter the shipping cost and tracking number on the order page once it's available. Include all tracking numbers when shipping a multi-parcel order to ensure accurate tracking of shipping costs and package locations. Your shipping costs (note that the reimbursement total may be capped) will be reimbursed by Faire* on your payout, and be added to the retailer's invoice for orders where the retailer is responsible for covering shipping costs (this excludes free shipping promotions, or orders where the retailer is eligible for Insider free shipping).

*Note: If you are participating in a Partnership Program, to offer your Insider retailers expanded free shipping, you may be responsible for shipping costs on eligible orders. To learn more, visit The Insider Partnership for North American brands, or What is the Insider Free Shipping Partnership Program for European brands?

To ship your order:

  1. Enter the date you anticipate being able to ship out the order.
  2. Confirm your Shipping From address within the Shipping Origin section of your order fulfillment page.
  3. Depending on your location and shipping method(s) available, choose Ship with Faire or Ship on your own.
  4. Once you’re ready to ship the product, print out the packing slip to include in the box, and a commercial invoice: you can choose the standard commercial invoice provided by Faire, or create your own if required for your products, learn more

Please note, orders that aren’t fulfilled within 30 days of the expected ship date are automatically canceled. If you are not ready to fulfill the order, you can use the “notes” field to make a record of any pending tasks needed to complete the order at a later time.

What if I can’t fulfill an order?

  • Item is unavailable
If you don’t have enough stock to fulfill this order, click on Edit Item Availability to update the order. Learn More
  • Order can’t be fulfilled
If you can’t fulfill the order, click on Cancel Order. Learn More
  • Order must be split
If you’re fulfilling the order from different warehouses, splitting the order will help prevent orders from being reported as incomplete when a second shipment is still on the way. Learn More

What is a shipping origin?

A shipping origin is the location where your orders are shipped from. Adding a shipping origin helps us determine the distance an order will travel, which helps provide accurate shipping estimates to retailers.

You can set a default shipping origin for all your orders to reference a specific shipping location. If you ship from multiple addresses, you can add and manage multiple shipping origins.

How do I add or edit a shipping origin from my settings?

To add your shipping origin location(s):

  1. Go to Shipping tools and select the Preferences tab.
  2. Choose Add shipping origin or select the Edit link next to an existing address.
  3. Enter your information for the following fields:
    1. Location nickname (only seen by you)
    2. Location address
    3. Name
    4. Phone number
  4. Select the checkbox Set this as your default shipping origin to make this location the default ship from address when fulfilling orders.
  5. Select the Save and add another link if you have other ships from locations to include.
  6. Select Save and close

If you change your default, the new default address will apply to all unfulfilled orders. To update a location without impacting all of your unfulfilled orders, make the edit, and do not use the default option.

How do I change my shipping origin on the order fulfillment page?

To change the shipping origin on the order fulfillment page:

  1. Go to your Orders page and select the order you want to fulfill.
  2. Scroll to Shipping Origin and select Manage locations.
    • This will take you to Shipping Tools where you can follow the steps outlined above to add a shipping origin, edit an existing one, or set a new default.
  3. Scroll to Shipping Origin and select Add another location.
    • Enter a new shipping origin for the order.
    • If you want the new address to apply to all unfulfilled orders, select the checkbox Set this as your default shipping origin.
  4. Select Save location.

Can retailers choose carrier preferences or exclusions?

Yes, when fulfilling an order you may see that your retailer has selected carrier preferences or noted carrier exclusions.

Preferred carriers: Retailers can select carriers they prefer you use when shipping their order. You are not required to use these carriers.

Excluded carriers: Retailers can exclude carriers they don’t want you to use. While you can use an excluded carrier, the retailer may have specific reasons for avoiding them such as cost, reliability, etc.

You can check the retailer’s preferences within the Ship to section on your order fulfillment page, and use a preferred carrier when possible. If you need to use an excluded carrier, you may consider connecting with your retailer over Faire Messenger to discuss any concerns before fulfilling the order.

How do I add and save shipping box dimensions?

You can now add and save measurements for your most common packages to help improve the accuracy of your shipping rate calculations. Not only does it help the accuracy of shipping rate calculation but saves you time for faster order fulfillment.

You can add boxes in two ways:

  1. From the Shipping tools tab
  2. By selecting a specific order on your Orders tab

Add shipping boxes from the Shipping tools tab:

  1. Select the Preferences tab and select Add package
  2. Enter a package name to identify the box size
  3. Add the measurements of the shipping box
  4. Add the weight of the shipping box when empty
Optional: You can also add the weight of any additional packing materials
  5. Select the checkbox to set it as your default package or leave it as-is for non-default boxes.
  6. Select Save and close or Save and add another to add another shipping box

You can also edit existing shipping boxes by choosing the edit link to the right of the box you’d like to change.

Add shipping boxes on a specific order from your Orders tab:

  1. When fulfilling your next order, add your package dimensions and weight
  2. Before choosing a carrier, select Save next to the package dimensions

  3. A pop-up will appear, prompting you to provide additional information about your saved box
  4. Name the box and add the weight
  5. Select the checkbox to set it as your default package or leave it as-is for non-default boxes
  6. Select Save and continue to fulfill your order.

How do I choose the right-sized package for my shipment?

When preparing a shipment, use the smallest package that safely fits your order. Oversized boxes often cost more to ship because carriers charge based on dimensional weight — a pricing method that factors in a package's size, not just its weight.

Shipping in space-efficient packaging helps you save on postage and reduces the chance of damage in transit.

Printing multiple packing slips

To print multiple packing slips:

  1. Go to Orders and select the orders you would like to print packing slips for
  2. Select Print Packing Slips to open the packing slips in a new tab.
  3. Select Print or Save as PDF

If you save the packing slips as a PDF, they’ll appear in a single PDF file. Each packing slip will print on an individual sheet of paper.

Can I ship multiple orders together?

Yes, you can now combine orders by selecting the Ship with another order option when you are selecting the shipping method for the order. Please note, this option will only be available if you have other eligible orders being shipped to the same address. You would not be able to combine orders if they meet any of the following criteria:

  • Orders shipping to different retailers
  • Orders shipping to different addresses
  • International orders
  • Orders that have already been delivered
  • Orders that have had shipments created more than 2 days ago

Shipping international orders

For guidance on how to sell and ship internationally, visit A guide to selling internationally on Faire

Commercial invoice

Orders shipping internationally will require a commercial invoice upon import. For every international order, Faire generates a standard commercial invoice, populated with the product information in your account. (This includes HS or tariff codes, weight, value of the goods, country of origin and other details.)

Please note, depending on the products you are shipping and the requirements specific to the country, or product type, additional fields might be required on the commercial invoice; or longer tariff codes as Faire only supports 6 digit tariff codes, in this case, we recommend you create your own commercial invoice, and request a template from the carrier you are shipping with. This will ensure import duties are applied correctly to your retailer.

Harmonized system (HS) codes (or tariffs) are an international customs classification system used by most trading nations throughout the world. Tariff codes will be required on any cross-border commercial invoices. These are universal codes, you can use any tariff code finder.

We have listed a few international tariff code finders below:

tariff code finder if you ship from the US

tariff code finder if you ship from the EU

tariff code finder if you ship from the UK

If the Faire generated Commercial invoice is suitable for your products and your shipment:

Click on the Print Commercial Invoice to print three (3) copies of the commercial invoice. Provide a signature on each copy you print.

  • #1 copy goes inside the package
  • #2 copy goes on the outside, contained within the airbill pouch with the shipping label
  • #3 copy is provided to the carrier directly

Please note: Retailers may also reach out to provide their brokerage information for importing. If a retailer provides this, please include this on the commercial invoice as well. The carrier will reach out to the parties listed on the commercial invoice if any information is missing upon import.

Please note : If you are a brand shipping from Portugal, you will need to create your own commercial invoice to ensure compliance.

Edit multiple shipping dates

To edit multiple shipping dates:

  1. Go to Orders and select the orders you wish to update
  2. Select Edit Ship Date to update the shipping date of the selected orders

There’s currently a limit of 100 orders that can be selected and updated.

Screen_Shot_2022-03-11_at_4.19.33_PM.png

You won’t be able to edit the shipping dates for the following:

  • Canceled orders
  • Fulfilled orders
  • Unapproved orders that require code tariff information
  • Changes that exceed 180 days from the original date

Why does my payout summary say “TBD pending shipment”?

When you ship an order using Ship with Faire, we confirm the final shipping cost using the carrier’s verified parcel weight and dimensions. This information becomes available only after the carrier scans the package.

Until we receive those details— within 24 hours after tracking is added—the shipping cost in your payout summary will show as “TBD”

This is expected and does not delay your payout if you are on next-day payment. As soon as the carrier provides the actual parcel details, your payout summary will automatically update with the final shipping cost
