Baru is a Brazilian nut that tastes more like peanuts but is a seed of a fruit. It is rarely known outside of Brazil and even within Brazil many people have never tasted it. It is foraged by families who patiently wait for the fruit to fall from the tree before collecting it and taking to a coop where it is cracked and roasted.
