From the pages of Kay Nielsen's seminal book, East of the Sun and West of the Moon (1914), comes this romantic scene from the Norwegian fairy tale The Lassie and Her Godmother, depicting the titular lassie and her prince. It's a disturbing tale to modern readers, but you wouldn't know it from this happy ending! As a greeting card, it's fitting to celebrate a sweet couple's happily ever after moment. Kay Nielsen (1886–1957), a Danish illustrator, is celebrated for his enchanting depictions of fairy tales and folklore. After studying art in Paris, he gained international acclaim for his dreamy style, notably in "East of the Sun and West of the Moon" (1914). Working with Disney on projects like Fantasia, Nielsen's innovative use of a 4-color process distinguished him. Today, Nielsen's beautiful art continues to inspire.
