Description

Sage was sacred to Zeus, according to the Greeks — and if you spend any time in a Greek village, you can see why. It grows silver-green on the hillsides, releases its scent as soon as you brush past, and has been steeped as an afternoon tea and stirred into cooking pots for as long as anyone remembers. In Greek it's called faskomilo, and it may be the country's most quietly beloved herb. This is Sevi Exceptional Botanic's version — Salvia officinalis, grown on their small family farm in the semi-mountainous hills near Drama, in the northern Greek village of Tichos. The 13-acre farm sits at roughly 370 metres altitude, where cool nights and dry summers concentrate essential oils in the leaves. Every stem is harvested by hand and dried slowly in the family's purpose-built drying room. What you get is sage that smells the way sage should — earthy, warmly camphorous, with a soft lemony edge underneath the pine. Whether you use it in the pot or the pot of tea, it does what a real Greek herb is supposed to do: quietly transform whatever it touches. Why we love it - 100% Salvia officinalis — the classic culinary and tea sage - Small-farm, hand-harvested, naturally dried - Grown on Sevi's own 13-acre farm in the hills near Drama, northern Greece - Rich in essential oils — genuinely aromatic, not shelf-worn - Elegant box packaging with a resealable inner pouch - No rushed drying, no additives How to use it Two lives in one leaf. In the kitchen, sage is the herb for pork, chicken, turkey, and duck — rub the dried leaves onto meat before roasting, stir into butter for finishing pasta or gnocchi, or fold into stuffings, sausages, and bean stews. Fried briefly in olive oil until crisp, sage becomes a beautiful garnish for roasted squash, sweet potato soup, or ravioli. And in the cup, sage is the traditional Greek afternoon tea — a heaped teaspoon steeped in hot water for a few minutes with a slice of lemon and a small spoon of honey makes a calm, aromatic cup that feels a bit like a Greek grandmother made it for you.
