How do case packs work with the Shopify integration?


In this guide


If you sell products in case packs, the Shopify integration includes settings to make sure your pricing and inventory sync correctly between both platforms. This article explains how Faire and Shopify track products differently, and how to configure your settings to match the way your store is set up.


How does Faire track products?

Everything on Faire is tracked at the unit level. That includes price, inventory, and order quantities.

  • Price — Always represents a single unit, even for case pack products.
  • Inventory — Always represents individual units. If you have 600 units in stock, that means 600 individual items.
  • Case size — The number of individual units in one case. A case size of 6 means retailers must order in multiples of 6.
  • Orders — When a retailer orders a 6-pack, the order shows a quantity of 6, representing 6 individual units.

Ex: A 6-pack candle set where each candle costs $4.

  • Faire price: $4 (per candle)
  • Case size: 6
  • Inventory: 600 (meaning 600 individual candles, or 100 six-packs)
  • A retailer ordering 2 six-packs would show as quantity 12 on Faire.

How does Shopify track products?

Unlike Faire, Shopify doesn't have a standardized approach. Brands may set up their products differently:

  • By the unit — Each listing represents a single item. A 6-pack would show 6 units of inventory, and the price represents one item.
  • By the case — Each listing represents a full case pack. A 6-pack would show 1 unit of inventory (the whole case), and the price represents all 6 items together.

Because these two approaches work differently, you'll need to tell us how your Shopify products are set up so we can sync prices and inventory correctly.


How do I set my selling method?

Your selling method is set during the initial Shopify integration setup, and can be updated at any time in Preferences.

  1. Open Shopify and go to Sales channels.
  2. Select Faire: Sell Wholesale.
  3. Choose Preferences.
  4. Under Selling method, choose the option that matches how your Shopify products are set up.

By the unit — Choose this if all your Shopify products are listed as individual items, even if you sell them in case packs on Faire.

With this setting:

  • Prices and inventory sync exactly from Shopify to Faire.
  • If you sell by the case on Faire, the case size you set on Faire controls the order minimums.

By the case — Choose this if your Shopify products represent full case packs (ex: a 6-pack candle set listed as one product at $24).

With this setting:

  • Your Faire unit price = Shopify price ÷ case size.
  • Your Faire unit inventory = Shopify inventory × case size.
  • When orders sync back to Shopify, quantities and prices convert back to case-level values.

Both — Choose this if your Shopify catalog includes a mix of individual units and case packs. After importing your products, you'll need to review and confirm the selling method for each product on Faire.

What happens when I change my selling method?

Changing your selling method triggers an automatic resync that recalculates prices and inventory for all your linked products using the new setting.

  • Unit → Case — Prices are divided by case size; inventory is multiplied by case size.
  • Case → Unit — Prices and inventory sync exactly from Shopify with no division or multiplication.

You can also update the selling method for individual products using Products or the bulk upload tool.


Why are my prices or inventory incorrect on Faire?

Most pricing and inventory issues with case pack products come from a mismatch between how Shopify tracks your products and what's selected in your selling method settings. Here are the most common scenarios:

Prices are too high on Faire

If you sell 6-packs at $24 on Shopify and Faire is showing $24 per unit, your selling method is likely set to By the unit when it should be By the case. Change your selling method to By the case to divide prices by the case size automatically.

Inventory is too low on Faire

If you have 100 six-packs in stock (600 individual units) on Shopify and Faire shows only 100 units, your selling method is set to By the unit instead of By the case. Change your selling method to By the case to multiply inventory by the case size.

Order quantities look wrong in Shopify

If a retailer orders 2 six-packs on Faire but Shopify shows 12 units instead of 2 cases, change your selling method to By the case so order quantities convert back to case-level values when they sync.
