Betty Belts, founded in 2003, is a long time local favorite in the beach community of Ventura, California. Founder and Designer, Donna von Hoesslin Pu'u draws her inspiration from her love of the ocean. When merged with the inspiration from the arts and fashion of her Berlin era (which lasted 17 years), she discovered a means of converting an ardent passion into an elegant and very connected design modus. This gave birth to this socially conscious business that reflects the deeper values of a life lived around the sea. Fun fact: you've found the OG maker of the wave designs seen here! Our story: It all started soon after I discovered the joy of surfing and deep healing from simply being in the ocean. Out of the water, my passion for life by the sea and creative drive fused in the form of sterling silver, upcycled surfboard resin and sea glass jewelry designs. With sea glass gifted from the ocean and surfboard resin scraps (a.k.a “surfite”) sourced from local board builders, the Betty collection has blossomed into meaningful and beautiful pieces that create joy. I stay true to my commitment to the community of artisans who handcraft my designs, the dreams of those whose lives are inspired by the sea, and the preservation of environment, culture, and all that is genuine.
