Applies to: domestic business-to-business (B2B) transactions for retailers located in France.
Starting 1 September 2026, France is introducing mandatory e-invoicing (facturation électronique) for domestic B2B transactions. Below is an overview of the key regulatory timelines, what changes for your orders on Faire, and how you can prepare.
When do I need to be able to receive e-invoices?
Starting 1 September 2026, all businesses registered in France that are subject to VAT (value-added tax) — regardless of size — must be equipped to receive e-invoices via an official digital mailbox, a Certified Partner Platform (Plateforme Agréée / PA).
When do brands have to start issuing e-invoices?
The legal obligation for suppliers to issue structured e-invoices is phased according to business size.
- Large enterprises and ETIs — 1 September 2026: businesses with 250 or more employees OR €50M or more in turnover.
- SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises) and micro-enterprises — 1 September 2027: businesses with fewer than 250 employees AND less than €50M in turnover.
Disclaimer: this guidance is general and based on our understanding of French tax rules. Retailers and brands should consult their own legal or tax advisors to confirm their official business classification.
What changes for my Faire orders on 1 September 2026?
Depending on the brands you buy from on Faire, two scenarios apply.
- Brands required to issue e-invoices (large enterprises and ETIs): invoices from these brands will be transmitted from the brand's certified platform (PA) to yours, using your SIREN number. They'll also stay accessible on your Orders page on Faire.
- Brands not yet required to issue e-invoices (SMEs): most brands on Faire fall under the SME category. Invoices from these brands will continue to be available in your Faire account as standard PDF downloads until September 2027.
How should I prepare for French e-invoicing?
To make sure your business is ready ahead of the mandate dates:
- Establish a certified platform (PA or PPF). Complete registration with an official platform before 1 September 2026 so you're able to receive e-invoices.
- Confirm your SIREN registration is active. Check that your business registration and SIREN details are up to date with the official French business registries.
Where can I find my Faire fee and subscription invoices?
We're not subject to the domestic French requirement to issue e-invoices via certified platforms. Invoices we issue for platform service fees, discounts, and paid subscriptions stay accessible from your Faire account, on your Unpaid invoices and Paid invoices pages.
How is Faire supporting retailers with French e-invoicing?
We're currently defining our technical roadmap to support retailers with these new requirements, and we're actively mapping out solutions to make this transition as seamless as possible for your business. We'll share further updates and communications as we approach the mandate dates.
