How does Shopify price sync work?

In this guide

Upon integrating your Faire store with your Shopify shop, you have the ability to turn on price sync feature which allows you to keep prices on Faire automatically up to date with the prices you’ve listed in Shopify. For additional details on the Shopify integration, please see Can I integrate with Shopify?

We have recently rolled out some improvements to price sync that are incorporated below.

How do I turn on price sync?

Once you have set up your Shopify integration, you can access your integration preferences by navigating to the Sales channels section and selecting Faire:Sell Wholesale then Preferences. In the Preferences section, you’ll be able to toggle price sync on and off. While you are adjusting your integration preferences, please make sure that your selections under the Catalog Import section are accurate as well, as price sync will pull from these settings.

If you are turning on price sync when you have no linked products between Faire and Shopify, price sync will apply only to future linked products.

If you have existing linked products, you will be provided the option to update the prices on linked products for either: all retail and wholesale prices on Faire with the markup on Faire based on the margin as indicated on Shopify, or just the prices that do not currently have a unique price calculation on Faire. If you select the latter option, your prices on Faire will update based on how you price your products on Shopify:

  • If your Shopify products are priced for retail: all retail prices from Shopify will sync on Faire, while maintaining any wholesale prices on Faire that you have already manually adjusted. If you have a compare at price on Shopify, we will use the compare at price as the retail price
  • If your Shopify products are priced for wholesale: all wholesale prices from Shopify will sync on Faire, while maintaining any retail prices on Faire that you have already manually adjusted. If you have a compare at price on Shopify, we will continue to use the listed price and will not use the compare at price.

Please note that the Shopify integration only syncs currencies supported by Faire. Prices will be updated on Faire when an update is made to the main price on Shopify. If an update is made to a price in another currency on Shopify, that price will only be pulled over when a price change is detected on the main Shopify price, or an inventory change is detected on Shopify and inventory syncing is enabled in the integration.

If a compare at price is present on Shopify we will sync this value to Faire and use it to calculate prices. This ensures promotional discounts on Shopify will not discount your prices on Faire.

How does turning on price sync on Shopify impact my prices on Faire?

After turning on price sync, your prices on Shopify will automatically update your prices on Faire depending on the markup margin that you set on Shopify. Prices will be updated on Faire when an update is made to the main price on Shopify. If you don’t use a standard markup across products, you’ll have the option to change the prices on a per product level in your Faire product editor.

When price sync is toggled on, we surface a Markup column in the pricing section of each linked product on Faire that updates dynamically to display the markup on any wholesale to retail price relationship.

If you indicate in your Shopify preferences that you price your products for retail on Shopify, then upon turning on price sync, your wholesale prices on Faire will be set based on your Shopify retail prices. In this case, your retail prices will be locked in on Faire and can only be adjusted by updating the retail prices on Shopify. This allows you to freely adjust the wholesale prices on Faire.

Alternatively, if you indicate that you price your products for wholesale on Shopify, upon turning on price sync your retail prices on Faire will be set based on your Shopify wholesale prices. In this case, your wholesale prices will be locked in on Faire and can only be adjusted by updating the wholesale prices on Shopify. This enables you to adjust the retail prices on Faire.

Please note that once price sync is turned on, every time that you update product prices on Shopify, the product pricing for the linked product will update as well. This means that even if you have manually adjusted the price on Faire, the change to the product price on Shopify will override the manual adjustment. The markup margin as set on Shopify will determine the updated wholesale or retail price as listed on Faire (depending on your Shopify settings).
