Business-use buyers are verified businesses purchasing products on Faire for their own use—not for resale. They buy in bulk at wholesale pricing, meet your standard minimums, and use your products in operations, events, or internal programs rather than selling them to end customers.
Common examples include:
- Boutique hotels and hospitality groups stocking guest rooms and welcome trays
- Restaurants, cafes, and bars sourcing everything from sauces to table linens
- Wellness and medical practices stocking skincare and treatment room essentials
- Offices and corporate buyers building gift boxes for clients and teams
- Community spaces buying in bulk for gatherings and events
How can I identify a business-use buyer?
Anytime you receive an order from a new buyer on Faire, you can review their information to see if they’re buying for resale or for business use. To see if a buyer is purchasing for business use, follow the steps below:
- Navigate to the Orders page in your Faire portal
- Select the new order you received
- Select Learn about this retailer under New Customer! at the top right corner of the order details page. A pop-up with the buyer’s information will open
- Under the buyer’s Store Type, you can see if they’re purchasing for business use or for retail sales
Do my standard pricing or minimum order quantities apply for business-use buyers?
Yes. Your existing pricing and order minimums still apply and these buyers have to meet any terms you already have in place to purchase from you.
How do I know that these are legitimate businesses?
Faire uses clear business signals and other measures to verify all buyers using our platform so you can feel confident in who you’re selling to. Business-use buyers will go through Faire’s standard verification process but will not be required to provide a reseller ID since they’re not reselling the products they purchase. Additionally, you’ll have the flexibility to choose which orders you want to accept from business-use buyers.
Do I have to sell to business-use buyers?
You maintain control over who you sell to. You’ll be able to review buyer information and can accept or decline individual orders from buyers if you think they’re not a good fit for your business. You can also choose to opt out of selling to business-use buyers entirely.
If you don’t want to sell to business-use buyers you can follow the steps below:
- In your Faire portal, navigate to the Settings page, then select Shop settings
- Scroll to the Retailer options section on your shop settings page
- Toggle off Sell to business-use buyers
- Select Save. Please note that it may take up to 24 hours for the change to be applied
Why is Faire supporting this buyer type?
Many brands are already selling their products at wholesale prices to these buyers off-Faire. By welcoming business-use buyers onto Faire, we’re:
- Bringing existing demand into one easy-to-manage place
- Unlocking new incremental order volume
- Simplifying how these buyers find your products and place their orders
We also recognize that the cafes, boutique hotels, restaurants, and studios that shape our communities have always relied on unique brands to bring their spaces to life, and welcoming business-use buyers onto Faire is about making those connections easier.
Will my Top Shop cancelled order metric be impacted if I choose to not sell to business-use buyers?
If you receive an order from a business-use buyer and choose not to accept it because they’re not a good fit for your business, your Top Shop cancelled order metric will not be impacted.
Are there any tax implications for my brand if I sell to business-use buyers?
For orders shipped to an address in the US, marketplace facilitator tax rules generally require marketplaces like Faire to comply with sales and use tax requirements. As a result, Faire will collect any required state and local sales and use taxes from business-use buyers when they place orders to be shipped to an address in the US and remit those taxes on your behalf. You may be required to report your marketplace sales on the sales tax returns you file, but then claim those sales as a deduction to avoid paying tax on them again. If you need reporting to file your own tax returns, please reach out to our support team. For more information on how US tax is handled on Faire, please refer to Where is Faire registered as a marketplace facilitator?
Faire’s state and local tax obligations as a marketplace apply only to sales and use taxes. As a seller, you may be subject to gross receipts taxes on the gross revenues from sales you make on the Faire marketplace. We recommend consulting your tax advisor to confirm your specific tax obligations.
For orders shipped outside the US, there are generally no additional tax implications specific to selling to business-use buyers. Applicable taxes such as VAT or GST may still apply depending on the destination country, retailer’s tax status, and value of the order.
Will Faire add more specific tools to help me sell to business-use buyers?
We’re actively learning from our brands and exploring how we can enable brands to most effectively sell to business-use buyers. Please contact our support team to share any feedback you have.
