Four small flashes of light, gathered in a set of crystal candleholders with a free, sculptural design typical of the 1970s. The crystal, thick and perfectly clear, is worked into flowing movements. Four points rise around the candle like the irregular petals of an open flower. The curves are never quite straight, the material catches the light differently depending on the angle, and the thick bases give these small pieces an astonishing presence. One imagines the four candleholders lined up down the center of a long table, between fine white dinnerware and a few antique glasses. At dusk, the flames are reflected in the depth of the crystal and cast a moving light across the tablecloth. For a more intimate dinner, two can sit on the table while the others softly illuminate a console or the top of a fireplace. In a more contemporary interior, they work just as well grouped on a tray, paired with a few books and a glass vase. Their transparency allows them to slip in anywhere without weighing down the decor. Even without candles, the four combined forms compose a pretty little sculptural glass ensemble. The four candleholders have come through the decades together and are offered as such, forming a particularly harmonious set. Height approximately 7–8 cm. Width approximately 7 cm. Circa 1970.
