Born an aristocrat, but living in Montmartre, a bohemian Paris neighborhood, Toulouse-Lautrec became a fixture in brothels and clubs. His work captured prostitutes, dance halls, and their customers in a graphic style influenced by Japanese prints. For the opening of the Moulin Rouge club, he created a series of advertisements.
