A.E. Brehm signs here one of the volumes of his large naturalist encyclopedia devoted to man and animals. This volume covers worms, mollusks, echinoderms, zoophytes, protozoa, and deep-sea animals. The French edition is prepared by Dr. A.T. de Rochebrune, assistant naturalist at the Muséum d'Histoire Naturelle in Paris, who signs the preface dated June 15, 1885. The work is illustrated with numerous engravings in the text and 20 plates hors texte, including a detailed table at the beginning of the volume. The plates cover earthworms, jellyfish, oysters, octopuses, pulmonate mollusks, echinoderms, corals, and sponge-fishing scenes on the Dalmatian coast. The internal engravings accurately depict strombids, conids, and other marine species. Binding: half brown leather with brown and gold marbled boards, spine with raised bands titled in gilt letters. Worn corners, fragile headcap, some rubbing on the spine. Interior browned with scattered foxing, text legible, engravings present. Complete work. Author: A.E.
