Wholesale Pierced plate, “Vieux Rouen” decoration – polychrome faience – Riva-Bella

Sometimes it only takes a plate to bring a bit of history into a home. This one borrows the codes of the famous Rouen earthenware, whose refined decorations once adorned the tables and sideboards of Norman houses. You can see the generous arabesques, the small stylized flowers and the deep colors—blue, yellow, green and brown—that give the piece all its richness. The rim is entirely pierced like laceware. Each opening lets the light through and highlights the swirls of the decoration, as if the piece had been carved rather than molded. In the center, a delicately painted flower basket adds a light, elegant note. This traditional motif evokes the old floral compositions often found on decorative dinnerware. On the back is the handwritten inscription “Riva-Bella,” recalling the famous Norman beach of Ouistreham. This type of piece was often offered in the workshops and shops on the coast, as an elegant souvenir inspired by the great traditions of regional earthenware.
