Wakame is a seaweed, also known as brown seaweed. The delicate, green leaves have a thin, papery texture and a mild, slightly nutty flavor. Wakamei is primarily native to the waters off the coast of Japan, but also in other parts of the Pacific and Atlantic, and grows on rocky seabed. Wakame seaweed became known in Japanese cuisine as seaweed salad or as zuata of dashi soups. Wakame is rich in bioavailable nutrients and a good source of iodine.
