The word earth describes an elemental substance, but it is also the word we use to describe both an entity, our planet, and an ecosystem, a community of which we are all part. Our Earth Pledge is a recognition of the earth as a living organism and our complex and important place in that cycle. It is an invitation to step back and see ourselves as members of something larger—to stand in awe and gratitude for all that we receive and to contemplate the many ways we contribute and give back. Pledging to the earth centers us in this ecosystem-based thinking and urges us to be thoughtful and curious about the ways that we exchange with the whole. Living each day with this in our heart and navigating the world from this perspective, we live differently, we prioritize differently, we choose differently, and we feel differently.
