To ensure that Shipbob has the most accurate barcodes for your products, you’ll now manage barcodes through the Fulfillment Barcode field on your product editor page. Each time you add a new product to Faire, you’ll need to fill out the Fulfillment Barcode field or the product won’t appear in ShipBob.
Please note that the barcode value you enter must match the physical barcode on your product. Any mismatch or absence of barcodes will result in receiving and fulfillment errors and delays.
Which barcode do I use?
The barcode that you enter in the fulfillment barcode field will depend on the selling method you have selected for the product on Faire:
- Sells by the case → enter the case pack barcode
- Sells by the unit → enter the barcode on the individual item
The barcode value you enter must exactly match the physical barcode printed on your product. Mismatches or missing barcodes will cause receiving and fulfillment errors and delays.
Barcode format: Barcodes can be any combination of letters and numbers. Special characters (e.g. <, ., >, /, ?, +, etc.) are not supported except for dashes. Barcodes must not exceed 48 characters.
How to Add Your Fulfillment Barcode
- Go to your Faire portal and open the Product Editor for the product you want to update.
- Locate the Fulfillment Barcode field.
- Enter the barcode exactly as it appears on the physical product.
- Save your changes.
Repeat this process for every product you're sending to the Fulfilled by Faire warehouse. Any product without a Fulfillment Barcode will not appear in ShipBob and cannot be fulfilled. You can also update fulfillment barcodes in bulk using the Bulk Editor or Bulk Uploader. For more information on how to update these in bulk, see How to edit products in bulk.
Important Note: Managing Barcodes Through Faire
- To keep ShipBob's records accurate, always manage your fulfillment barcodes through the Fulfillment Barcode field in your Faire product editor and not directly in ShipBob.
- Additionally, every time you add a new product to Faire, you must fill out the Fulfillment Barcode field before that product will appear in ShipBob.
What If My Products Don't Have Barcodes?
If your products don't currently have barcodes, you'll need to create and apply them before sending inventory to the warehouse.
Option 1: Purchase official UPC barcodes
The most reliable approach is to obtain a legitimate UPC (Universal Product Code) through GS1 US, the official issuing body for product barcodes. Each product needs a unique barcode, so purchase one per SKU.
Option 2: Work with your manufacturer or printer
If you use a manufacturer, co-packer, or screen printer, ask them to add barcodes during production. This is usually a straightforward request and the most cost-effective option if you're placing a new order.
Option 3: Print and apply your own labels
For smaller quantities, you can generate and print barcode labels yourself:
- Use a free barcode generator tool (such as Avery's free barcode generator) to create a barcode image
- Print labels on standard label sheets from an office supply store
- Apply them clearly and flat on each product so they're scannable
Before shipping to our warehouse:
- Make sure the barcode is physically attached to the product
- Ensure it's scannable, well-presented, undamaged, and not obscured
- Enter the same barcode value in the Fulfillment Barcode field in your Faire portal
