Anthony (1820–1906) was a leading reformer whose lifelong commitment to justice spanned abolition, educational reform, labor rights, and temperance. Devoting herself most fully to women’s suffrage, she believed the vote was essential to true equality. From 1869 until her death, she introduced a suffrage amendment to every session of Congress, persisting despite decades of resistance. Her determination helped shape the national fight for women’s rights and laid the groundwork for the 19th Amendment’s ratification in 1920, fourteen years after her death.
