About Scratch Goods

We’re Elizabeth and Maureen, long-time friends with a passion for simple, sustainable skincare. It all started in 2011 with a vintage book on soapmaking, and the resulting soap that gave us the happiest skin of our lives. Maureen's food science background kicked in to help us formulate our own recipe, then all new products. We made them all from scratch in Elizabeth's kitchen (while both working full-time jobs!). We stuck to simple ingredients from our community garden and local farms, focusing on products that were sustainable, gentle basics. We opened our first brick and mortar shop in Chicago in 2015. (Didn't quit those jobs until 2017!) Over the past fifteen years, our skincare has built a very loyal following - we never get tired of the skincare success stories. If you're ever in Chicago, you can book a table and try our best-selling products at the Mask Bar, an interactive and social skincare experience in our sunny West Loop retail space. We're still making the products by hand, and we intend to always do that. Read their story
