Both seat and back are cushioned with medium density foam for better comfort of even long-time sitting. Legs are made of solid rubberwood, and are stained black. Assembly needed. I purchased for chairs and they were shipped individually boxed with no outside damage to the boxes. The orange chair was easier to put together. The green chair had some issues with the holes not exactly lining up but, I was able to get everything put together.
