Anne Boleyn was the second wife of King Henry VIII of England and served as queen from 1533 to 1536. She had an important position in English history as she was a key figure in the English Reformation and also because of her influence on the king and the political landscape of England during her term of office. Anne Boleyn was born to Sir Thomas Boleyn and his wife, Lady Elizabeth Howard. She was brought up in France and the Netherlands and later returned to England, where she served at the court of Queen Catherine of Aragon. She later became the mistress of King Henry VIII, and the king endeavored to have his marriage to Catherine of Aragon annulled so that he could marry Anne. After the marriage was annulled, Henry married Anne and made her his queen.
