Description
A lumbar pillow cover in Japanese ceremonial silk, cut from a Nishijin fukuro obi (袋帯): cascading sensu (扇子, folding fans — suehiro 末広, the widening of fortune) holding sakura (桜) and kiku (菊) across textured gold silk. Envelope-pocket back, no metal against the silk; 50 × 30 cm. For gilded, layered interiors. Spot clean only. Unrepeatable, finished at the Renaras atelier, Amsterdam. Sensu. Suehiro — the widening of fortune. The Japanese folding fan — symbol of the widening of prosperity into an abundant future — opening here across textured gold silk. Against a shimmering textured gold silk ground, sensu folding fans unfurl in cascading formation, each one a vessel for sakura cherry blossoms and kiku chrysanthemums in delicate violet, vermilion and powder blue, bound with ceremonial decorative cords. The gold gives the composition its luminance. The opening fans give it its fortune. A pillow for ivory, cream, warm linen — and against charcoal or deep indigo, an anchor for the room. Quiet beauty for ordinary moments, gathered around a shared table. Seamless envelope closure. No metal touches the visible silk.
