About Renaras
Renaras transforms rare Japanese textiles and craft into singular home objects — wall tapestries, lumbar pillows, table runners, knot bags, and furoshiki cut from ceremonial silk, alongside hand-thrown Hagi ware ceramics from Japan's Yamaguchi prefecture. Designed and finished at our atelier on IJsbaanpad in Amsterdam. Our silk comes from obis and kimono textiles woven for ceremony and household ritual — furisode, homongi, uchikake, tsuzure-ori brocades. Each textile carries a history: a weave commissioned for an occasion, carried across generations, now discontinued. We source in Japan for the quality of the silk, the complexity of the motif, and the character of its age. Alongside it, we work with a small circle of Hagi ware potters — among them Seigan Yamane, Tenryu, and Taian Seki — whose hand-trailed glazes carry the same centuries-old tradition of restraint. At the atelier we design and finish every silk object in-house, hemming each furoshiki by hand. Our practice is grounded in mottainai — bringing new imagination to a living tradition rather than discarding what holds meaning. Every silk piece is unrepeatable; once transformed, it cannot be made again. For the retailer: pieces that sit well in interiors, lifestyle, and gift contexts, from accessible gifting to statement pieces. Minimum order 100 EUR.
