About Renaras
Renaras transforms Japanese ceremonial silk into singular home objects — wall tapestries, lumbar pillows, table runners, placemats, knot bags, furoshiki. Designed and finished at our atelier on IJsbaanpad in Amsterdam. We work exclusively with obis and kimono textiles woven for ceremony, occasion, and household ritual — furisode, hōmongi, uchikake, tsuzure-ori gold-woven brocades. Each textile arrives with a history: a weave commissioned for a specific occasion, carried across generations, and now discontinued. We source in Japan, selecting pieces for the quality of their silk, the complexity of their motif, and the particular character of their age. At the atelier, we design and finish every object in-house. The silk becomes wall art, a lumbar cushion, a table runner, a knot bag, a wrapping cloth. We hem each furoshiki by hand. Our practice is grounded in mottainai — the Japanese philosophy of bringing new imagination to a living tradition rather than discarding what holds meaning. Every Renaras piece is unrepeatable. Once a silk has been transformed, it cannot be made again. For the retailer: our objects sit well in interiors, lifestyle, and gift contexts. Minimum order €100.
