Perlite is a product made from volcanic rock. The perlite grains are very airy and are used for soil improvement or as a pure growing medium. When mixed with peat or soil, Perlite provides the following benefits: • Improves soil structure and water drainage • Enhances oxygen availability and promotes germination and root development • Has low weight and makes the growing medium easier to work with • Easier water absorption and water distribution in dry peat • Physically stable and does not compress • Is sterile, i.e., free from diseases, weeds, and insects • Is light-reflective and evens out temperature differences, therefore important as seed and soil covering, especially during the dark season.
