Wholesale 2 large Badonviller plates – Richelieu pattern – blue bouquets – early 20th century

Elegant pair of large antique plates from the Badonviller manufactory in Lorraine, belonging to the very pretty Richelieu pattern. On a fine ivory-toned earthenware, delicate bouquets of flowers are printed in blue. Roses, daisies and foliage form a regular wreath around the well, in this monochrome palette that remains one of the great hallmarks of old French tableware. All the charm of the Richelieu pattern also lies in its material work. The rim features a particularly refined molded relief decoration, alternating vegetal motifs and small beads, while the scalloped edge is highlighted by a fine deep-blue frieze. Light catches the faience reliefs and gives the whole a presence that the photographs capture particularly well. Badonviller belongs to the great history of Lorraine faience factories. At the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century, these manufactories produced table services that accompanied the transformation of bourgeois interiors. With Richelieu, Badonviller revived the French taste for scalloped shapes and classical ornaments while adapting it to modern fine faience techniques. The back bears the Richelieu, Badonviller, F.T. stamp. Diameter approximately 26 cm. The plates have withstood the passage of time and naturally bear its marks. There are traces and old browning in the wells as well as a patina of use, perfectly visible in the photographs. These particularities have been taken into account in their price. More than a century after their creation, this blue on an ivory ground retains an astonishing freshness and fits equally well on an antique table or in a contemporary interior.
