Beacon Hill is a perennial, evergreen succulent that forms tight, waxy rosettes. It is famous for its deep burgundy to mahogany-red coloration, which remains vibrant throughout the year. The leaves are often finished with a subtle, pale green base and sharp, clean margins that emphasize its star-like symmetry. The heuffelii species is native to the Balkan Mountains of Southeast Europe. Unlike other Sempervivums, heuffelii varieties are unique because they do not produce "chicks" on long runners. Instead, the mother plant splits at the crown to form new rosettes, a trait that has helped them survive the harsh, rocky altitudes of their homeland. In the heat of summer, Beacon Hill sends up thick, upright stalks. While many succulents have pink blooms, heuffelii varieties are prized for their bell-shaped, pale yellow to creamy-white flowers.
