Description

The Piece Late 19th–early 20th century assembled table lamp Fabricated by Viridian Eclection from period components Amethyst glass body (believed to originate from an oil lamp), brass base with sawtooth inlaid motif, carved wood finial, amethyst shade Composite construction using elements dating c.1880–1920 Primary Description The lamp is composed of an amethyst glass body believed to have originated as part of an oil lamp, paired with a brass base featuring a sawtooth inlaid motif. The glass body displays tonal depth and surface characteristics consistent with late 19th–early 20th century decorative glass. A carved wood finial crowns the assembly, completing the vertical profile. An amethyst glass shade with angular paneling sits atop the body, diffusing light through the colored glass and producing a warm, low ambient glow. The elements are proportionally balanced and materially distinct, resulting in a cohesive form that does not attempt to conceal its assembled nature. Historical Context Decorative glass bodies produced in the late 19th century were frequently adapted over time as lighting technologies shifted from oil to electricity. Many oil lamp components were later repurposed, either domestically or by lighting shops, to extend their use rather than discard them. This lamp reflects that historical pattern while acknowledging its modern fabrication. Rather than presenting a speculative original configuration, it preserves individual period components and brings them together through careful assembly. The result aligns with historical practices of reuse and adaptation without attempting to replicate a factory-original piece. Product Details / Materials & Presentation → Body: Amethyst glass, believed to originate from an oil lamp, c.1880–1910 → Base: Brass with sawtooth inlaid motif, c.1910–1920 → Finial: Carved wood, early 20th century → Shade: Amethyst glass, c.1910s → Assembly: Fabricated by Viridian Eclection → Electrical: Wired for modern use Condition + Updates All components are in good antique condition, with surface wear consistent with age across glass, brass, and wood elements. Why It Belongs in Your Home This lamp functions as both illumination and object, suited to spaces where material warmth and layered history are valued.

Ridiculous & thoughtless packaging! Box had inadequate packaging & cushion. Fragile porcelain items were not properly bubble wrapped. Only wrapped in kraft paper & TONS of masking tape!?!??? Masking tape was DIRECTLY on the items. Cat arrived w/broken off ear, cracked neck, chunk broke off the back. These are vintage items & it makes me sick that there are damaged beyond repair. Not only are they unsellable to my clients, a piece from history is lost.
