Dracula solidified gothic conventions in our collective imaginations and transfixed readers' attentions to a once-obscure Transylvanian folk figure, the Vampire. A figure since romanticised into both the brooding aristocrat and the ghoulish horror. Made immortal through countless adaptations, the original is still unnerving today, with themes drawn from Victorian social class, empire, sex, and gender. It is classic gothic horror literature. Our design needed to make good on those gothic conventions. We use a scene of a brooding yet all-too-welcoming aristocrat in a castle on a dark night. Our Dracula quote bids you welcome, but the gothic font betrays darker intentions.
