Handmade from Nepal. Lokta is strong and versatile. It can be painted on with most media but also drawn on. It can be cut, stamped and of course glued, it is a great paper for paper crafters, collage artists, decoupage and bookmakers, as well as for printmaking. But it also makes a unique and special gift wrap or for other decorative uses. Lokta is made from the Daphne plant, commonly known as the Lokta plant. It is seasonally harvested from the base of the Himalayas and grows back each year. It is then hand process and made into pulp, the same way it has been made for centuries. During the drying process recycled cotton threads are added to the surface of the paper. This gives a great texture and additional interest to the sheet without adding a lot of bulk. The fibers then dry into the sheet so they are not going to come off easily. Paper has 4 deckled edges. Photo is a 4" x 4" section of the sheet.
