Wholesale Nibelungenlied Hagen Killing Siegfried

Siegfried is a hero of the Nibelungenlied in German mythology. (Known as Sigurd in Norse mythology) Raised as a foster son of Mime the dwarf, he reforged “Nothung” the broken sword and avenged his father, king Sigmund’s death. On his quest to win Kriemhild(sister of king Gunther), he slain the Dragon, Fafnir, bathed in it’s blood to become invincible except for a spot on his back where a leaf had shield the dragon blood. His possession of the treasure from Fafnir, included the cursed Andvari’s ring, that had claimed numerous victims. In exchange of Kriemhild’s hand, Siegfried was successful in helping Gunther win the hand of Icelandic queen Brunhild. However, he was unable to overcome the power of the ill-fated ring and eventually betrayed by Gunther, due to Brunhild’s vengeful false accusation and killed by Hagen’s spear.
