Deeper Look I was feeling very inspired by the photo of Jake Kiszka holding a sword for the Starcatcher album, and the concept for this piece is to focus on the Death tarot card; so I played from both inspirations by incorporating a "death card symbol" of the bone-hand wielding the sword. This hand is stitched strikingly in white chainstitching. The hilt of the sword is very detailed with rich areas of black prismatic fabric and metallic stitching. The sword's blade is filled to the tip with silvery-metallic sheens to bring it to life! The white rose has somewhat of a 3D look in person. It features various stitch types and threads in a particular way to make this come into fruition. For the death card to be more noticeable as an actual card, I wanted to make the card outlines stand out so they are red chainstitching. Additionally, I transcribed the alternative phrase for the Death card "Le Morte" as seen on many antique versions of the card. Within this phrase, I also included the scorpio sign. Can't forget to bring another GVF aspect to the design with lyrics that tie into the meaning of the card: "A brand new day, a brand new start." And lastly, it needed one more border to make it seem more like a card. So instead of another chainstitch that was a repeat of the other, I went for something much more fitting: skulls!
