Moldavite is a rare green tektite that likely formed when a massive meteorite struck what is now southern Germany about 15 million years ago. The tremendous force of the impact melted surrounding material and launched it high into the atmosphere. As the molten material cooled and returned to Earth, it formed the beautiful green glass known as Moldavite.
