The cobalt blue tarantula (Haplopelma lividum) is native to the tropical forests of Southeast Asia, a beautiful spider about five inches long (including the legs). It may look dark brown or black at first, but in the light, its bright cobalt blue colored abdomen and legs become evident. The movements of this species are much more unpredictable compared to most others, so great care should be taken as it is known for its aggressiveness, speed, and potent venom. These species are fossorial and are often hiding in their webbed burrow. You may see them out at night, waiting for food to cross their path.
