Handwoven on the traditional backstrap loom in the town of Chuacruz, Sololá, the Jaspe Dot Pillow Cover features a jaspe ikat dot design deeply rooted in that community's weaving tradition. Stripes are punctuated by small ikat dots, each one the result of a labor intensive resist-dyeing process completed before a single thread is placed on the loom. Backed with natural cotton plain weave and finished with an invisible YKK zipper along the bottom seam. Backstrap weaving is one of the oldest textile traditions in the Americas. The loom itself is a simple but extraordinary tool, one end tied to a tree or post, the other strapped around the weaver's body, allowing the weaver to control the tension of the fabric through their own movement.
