Description
Handwoven on the traditional backstrap loom in Nahuala, Guatemala, the Cerulean Brocade Pillow Cover is one of the most labor intensive pieces in our collection. The brocade pattern is a series of diamonds in two shades of naturally dyed indigo, with accents dyed using soot collected from the cooking stove. The piece is built thread by thread, each one individually placed during the weaving process. Backed with natural cotton plain weave and finished with an invisible YKK zipper along the bottom seam. Backstrap weaving is one of the oldest textile traditions in the Americas. The loom itself is a simple but extraordinary tool, one end tied to a tree or post, the other strapped around the weaver's body, allowing the weaver to control the tension of the fabric through their own movement. Every piece produced on a backstrap loom carries the physical presence of the person who made it. Material: 100% cotton Care: Handwash in cold water using earth friendly soap. Hang to dry. As with all naturally dyed textiles, the color will gently fade over time. We consider this part of their beauty, making each piece increasingly unique and connected to the natural world. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight to slow the fading process. Please note that each batch is dyed naturally and individual pieces may vary slightly in tone.
