Karawan soaps are made exclusively with noble oils: pure olive or olive and bay laurel, combined in various proportions. It is to the properties of these oils and their traditional cooking method that Aleppo soap owes its renown. The maximum concentration of plant actives, fatty acids and glycerin, naturally contained in the oils transformed into soap, gives Karawan Aleppo soaps their incomparable virtues. MANUFACTURE: Karawan Aleppo soaps are made by a master soapmaker according to the traditional recipe of cooking whole oils in a copper cauldron. After 24 hours of cooking, the paste, poured in large sheets, is cooled and then cut by hand. The blocks are stacked in a tower for 9 months of drying and maturation in the open air, under the soapworks’ vaults. Since the founding of Karawan authentic in 2004, we have been committed with our soapmaking partner in Aleppo. The recognized quality of Karawan soaps is the result of their expertise based on their ability to select the noble oils of olive and laurel and on their fine knowledge of the steps of saponification. This lasting relationship has allowed us to maintain the quality of our soaps since the start of the conflict in Syria in 2011, by reorganizing an artisanal factory 70 km north of Aleppo, in Turkey. Today Karawan Aleppo soaps are once again produced in Aleppo, Syria. Gradually, over the past few years, at the initiative of family members who returned to the area, the soapworks have been restored little by little, production resuming step by step. Today, the family, reunited in Aleppo, proudly bears the responsibility of preserving a deeply rooted family cultural heritage. Karawan authentic thus continues its original commitment to support artisans who maintain their ancestral activity, a symbol of Aleppo’s rich and diverse history. Therefore, depending on the year of manufacture, our soaps indicate Turkey or Syria as the country of origin.
