Description
The Piece A charming hand-painted floral square frame mirror, dating to c. 1930s–1950s, with a warm wood frame, painted vine-and-leaf border, and deeply aged mirror glass. The frame has a beautifully domestic quality: decorative, personal, and quietly romantic without feeling overly precious. The painted border features green leaves, delicate vines, and small red floral accents set against a golden-brown wood finish. The square form gives the piece architectural balance, while the softly worn surface, visible patina, and darkened mirror glass bring the kind of age that cannot be convincingly recreated by modern reproductions, despite everyone’s exhausting attempts. This is a small-scale mirror with presence: ideal for a powder room, entry wall, vanity, bookshelf vignette, dressing area, or layered gallery wall. History This piece is best described as a vintage hand-painted floral mirror from c. 1930s–1950s. The form and decoration are consistent with early-to-mid 20th century household mirrors, when small decorative wall mirrors were often made with wood frames, painted borders, applied varnish, and simple metal sawtooth hangers. The frame appears to be wood, with mitered corner construction and a hand-painted floral vine motif around the front face. The back is fitted with a board panel and metal sawtooth hangers. The mirror glass shows visible aging, surface scratches, spotting, and darkened reflective quality, all consistent with age and use. No maker’s label, signature, stamp, or origin mark is visible in the provided photographs. Because of that, the maker and origin remain unidentified. The safest listing language is: “Vintage c. 1930s–1950s hand-painted floral square frame mirror.” Product Details Attribute Detail Object Type Wall mirror Date c. 1930s–1950s Style Early-to-mid 20th century decorative / cottage traditional Dimensions Approx. 8" W x 8" H exterior, based on ruler photos Material Wood frame, mirror glass, board backing, metal sawtooth hangers Color / Finish Warm golden-brown wood finish with hand-painted green vine and red floral accents Condition Vintage condition with age-related wear throughout.
