About the colour: Utrecht University yellow Utrecht University from 1636 is one of the oldest in the Netherlands. Several alumni are Nobel Prize winners. Amongst them Jacobus van 't Hoff, Gerard 't Hooft, Martin Veltman and Wilhelm Röntgen, who discovered the X-rays. The university's motto is Sol Iustitiae Illustra Nos (Sun of jusitice, shine upon us) and a yellow sun is the shining heart of it's logo.
