Description
The Piece A classic antique John Maddock & Sons Willow Blue vitrified bowl, made in England and decorated in the iconic blue-and-white Willow pattern. The design features the traditional pagoda landscape scene with birds, bridge, boat, trees, and layered cobalt-blue borderwork. The bowl has a shallow rounded profile, making it suitable as a small serving bowl, shallow soup bowl, display piece, or open-shelf accent. Its blue-and-white palette mixes beautifully with ironstone, Staffordshire transferware, Delft-inspired ceramics, and collected cottage kitchenware. Design & Construction This piece is made from vitrified china, a durable ceramic body associated with practical English tableware. The blue transfer decoration has strong graphic clarity, with the central Willow scene surrounded by a patterned border and decorative rim. The underside is marked John Maddock & Sons, England, Vitrified. John Maddock & Sons was a Staffordshire pottery maker based in Burslem. The company added “Ltd.” to its title in 1896, and The Potteries notes that Maddock used printed marks including the trade names Vitrified and Royal Vitreous. That makes a safe catalog date circa 1896–1930s, depending on the exact backstamp variation.
