Ingrid Washinawatok El-Issa (1957-1999) was a beloved peace warrior from the indigenous Menominee Nation in Wisconsin. As a teen she fought for restoration of tribal recognition for her nation and would bring the struggle for sovereignty and environmental justice to the UN and other fronts. She became a leading international advocate for native peoples. While helping the U'wa tribe establish a school system, supposedly revolutionary Colombian guerrillas killed her and two fellow activists.
