The majestic peak was climbed for the first time in 1910, Ferdinand Schjelderup, Carl Wilhelm Rubenson and Alf Bonnevie Bryn finally made it to the top, after a number of famous summit climbers had failed. Among those who failed was the Englishman William C. Slingsby, who later pettily described Stetind as "the ugliest mountain I ever saw". Beautiful or not, Stetind is undoubtedly an awe-inspiring mountain, a massif of granite shaped over 2 billion years into an anvil where the gods can hammer.
