Hand-decorated porcelain, the figurines are three different representations of Fukurokuju. The deity Fukurokuju Fukurokuju (福禄寿) is one of the Seven Lucky Gods (七福神 shichifukujin), a character from Japanese mythology. He is the deity responsible for wisdom, happiness, and long life. The other deities are Ebisu, Daikoku, Benzaiten, Bishamonten, Jurjin, and Hotei. The term by which he is identified derives from the combination of Fuku = Happiness, Roku = Wealth, and Ju = Long life. He is depicted as a man with a high forehead, bald, and with long mustache, always carrying a staff. His companions are a turtle (symbol of long life) and a crane (symbol of wisdom).
