The first design book I ever picked up was Kate Spade’s, Ten Things We Love. The editorial world of polka dots, well-placed bows, and pops of red opened a desire in a much younger me to create and design as a career. This card pays homage to the classic signage that was in every Kate Spade retail location in the 2000s, which combined bold black lettering with whimsical objects mounted alongside their ethos. Kate Spade was always a source of inspiration to me, and as I processed starting a greeting card company in New York, the wonder of her early work and simultaneous grief of her early passing both rekindled. I wanted to honor her impact by designing a card that paid tribute to their classic store signature.
