Description
Everyday ZOKIN MAT #68/Squiggles Using Vintage Japanese Textiles And Hand Sashiko Stitching , Dimensions: 12 3/4"x12 1/2" Zokin #68 was an exercise in French knots. When I was thinking about the pattern for the sashiko, I felt that the nature of this waving print and the wrinkly fabric just warranted something a little different. The French knots do the job of the sashiko, quilting the 3 layers together, while punctuating the waves in a way that vibrates a bit. The backing is a vintage heavy-weight linen, wide weave that makes a good backing for the table or a mat. What is a Zokin? In Japan, a Zokin is a cleaning rag, typically made in the last stage of repurposing fabric, when only a small swatch is left and two stitched together and reinforced in the sashiko way, make it a cloth that can be used was a washcloth or a cleaning rag or wipe.
