Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA) - Although this sounds awful, PVA is a non-toxic, completely  biodegradable, water soluble resin sometimes called a bioplastic. It's used as a binding agent in everything from paper to adhesives, textiles, and films and contact lense lubricant!  PVA is made from a natural gas by-product called Ethylene. Ethylene is extracted from these natural gases and mixed with acetate which forms the polymer - a type of biodegradable plastic derived from biological substances NOT PETROL) usually wood pulp, and mixed with acetic acid (like in vinegar) - it's a very long and really complicated process! It is 100% non-toxic and safe for humans, animals, and marine life and will degrade in wastewater treatment plants within approx 46-72 days by various enzymes, bacterias and microorganisms.
