Description
This reproduction deck of 18-century 3-1/2" x 2-1/2" cards, printed on matte, heavy-weight, aged card stock, includes 52 four-suited playing cards. The card backs are blank as they were until the 19th century when Thomas DeLa Rue & Co. introduced the printed back to discourage poker players from "marking the cards". The size is smaller than more modern cards, Packaged in a resealable poly bag. The history of playing cards dates can be traced back to mid 15th century. However, in that era, importing foreign cards was considered illegal. The reason may be that the cards included pictures of the Kings and Queens in the respective country. Gambling was a popular form of entertainment and a major culture in England in the 18th century. Pharaoh and basset in particular were the most popular card games in England and they continued to be widely played.

18th Century Colonial Playing Card Set Reproduction | Games
The brass items are always great of a quality and do well for us. The historic trading cards are packaged in a way that doesn't reflect the higher price point. The few times we've branched out into other products we've been let down by the quality and value. And to be fair, we were able to return the one item that was damaged - so the customer service has been great. The brass is quality so we'll keep coming back for the brass, but will limit how much we branch out to their other products.

Hello. Thank you for your comments and orders. These cards, as the description notes in the first bullet point, are 3-1/2" x 2-1/2" in size , printed on "uncoated cream card stock". You are correct noting the cards are smaller than contemporary playing cards of today, but they ARE an accurate size representation of the era in which playing cards originated. The paper stock is custom sourced and also representative of the paper weight or thickness used during the 18th-19th century. The paper color, while not exactly identical, is as close to accurate as possible. We regret that these do not meet your expectations but felt an explanation of the production process might provide a better understanding. Thanks again for your comments and order. —Madison Bay Co. - Historical Home Decor Reproductions • Mar 9, 2026
