Description
This Double Rose and Trellis tile is part of the De Morgan Collection at Canon Hall, Barnsley. This mini “nibbles” tray is perfect for a liquid refreshment and an appetiser; perhaps an early morning cleansesr, sweet elevenses or a bedtime cocoa? Dimensions: 15 x 15 x 2cm Material: Glossy, Melamine About the Artwork This Rose & Trellis is from one of the latest periods of De Morgan production. This earthenware tile is decorated with two white roses in opposite corners which are entwined in green leaves. This bright white contrasts with the blue trellis and turquoise ground, creating an attractive design. Prior to opening his own pottery in 1872, De Morgan collaborated with William Morris and Edward Burne-Jones, creating ceramics and stained glass for the founders of the most iconic interior design firm of the Victorian period. The impresse stamp on the reverse of the tile informs us that this tile was made in 1898 when De Morgan was in partnership with three of his former employees.
