The city of Greenville Mississippi is protected from flooding by an incredible feat of human engineering. We just call it the levee. At certain times of the year after heavy rains or snow melting from northern states, the water rises. Sometimes it can be downright frightening. Most of the time it's quite beautiful. The spring flowers all in bloom get swallowed up by crystal-clear floodwaters. You can easily see the flowers in the water and fish swimming over the tops of the buds. It's also good for fishing. This painting is a tribute to rising waters as well as a reminder of the fragile systems we live in and around.
